I have been living in City for barely over a week now and in that time have had 6 out of town guests come by. Five of whom I housed. So while it is suprising, given my personality, I am perfectly content to be in my delightfully large-ish apartment, alone. There are no flatmates- although they both appear to be darlings and I am excited for our continued aquaintance- and it is blissful to be alone.
There is so much that I want to see and do. I am so excited to start sailing, attending classes, and interacting with new people. I cannot wait to be a joiner and begin to make friends in my new neighborhood. Little neccessities of the neighborhood that one really ought to have sorted out by the middle of the second week in a new place, I have yet to accomplish. I have yet to locate the grocery store, to receive a new student ID, to meet any single person from my own neighborhood who I don't live with.
Yet all these excited-for-the-future desires are easily swept away by the powerful steady current of exhaustion that wants me to sit still and eat ice cream. Aware of how soon courses will be underway, and the intensity of focus and effort that comes with it, my core self wants to be lazy. wants to revel in time unstructured and alone.
And so here I am. In my new city, appreciating the little adventures that can come with sitting at home, alone.

The Transcontinental Trailer Adventure
Today, at this very moment all of the possessions which are not currently with my person (which is not very many) are in a rented one axle trailer crossing the great american desert. Two very dear friends radically agreed to cart my belongings behind their truck-like automobile in exchange for a free visit to City. I find this ludicrious. Having visited City frequently and while loving it dearly would not spend a long weekend hauling other peoples furniture out of basements and into apartments on its behalf.
I arrived a week before my lease in City started, and so have gotten to know those tenants who are on their way out. I can honestly say that I am not sorry to see either of them go. Neither is a bad person, or duly unpleasant, but in my one meager week I didn't warm to them either.
At this instant there is a large cream colored queen size mattress where the ostentatious flat screen television previously stood. I am fond of it. And if new flatmate B didn't need to sleep on it in a few days I would argue we leave it up there; a faux art peice if you will.
The adventures thus far have been subtle, involving shopping districts, museums and "ethnic" food. There was even a breif rendesvous with serious illness quickly dispelled by a miraculous food-drop by an old, good dearest friend. You see, I am ashamed to admit I have been here a proper week now and have yet to locate a grocery store.
